How to Setup Wireless Printer Access

What good would it be to have a wireless setup for your computer without wireless printer access. You would still be connected to extra equipment that would reduce your mobility.

This problem is solved by using a wireless print server. This would allow you to put your printer in any location for the convenience of the user. In the home or office, you may have one central location for the printer.

For this access, you would need to purchase a wireless print server. This device connects to the wireless network and lets you setup a printer as a network printer. It doesn't need to be connected to a computer any longer to operate.

To setup a print server, you will need to connect the printer werver to the network card on one of your computers using the network cable so that you can configure the print server for your network.

This setup involves seting the IP address, the wireless network name, channel number and type of security so it can connect to the wireless network. I would set the IP address to a static address so you can find this printer on your network. If you used dynamic addresses for the server, the IP address could change whenever the network or print server were rebooted. After this is done, you can disconnect the network cable and put this print server next to the printer.

You will still need the printer drivers installed on your computer as you normally would, but the port for the printer would be set to TCP/IP access using the IP address of the print server. You would then be able to print to the printer as you would normally.
